Hi Betsy,

Here is the short blurb about our operations

The Lunchbox Express is back! Feeding Colorado Kids.

With 2 school buses this summer, we will deliver free lunches to kids (18 & under, no qualification, first come/first served) who would literally go hungry with schools closed.

In Englewood, the bus stops @ Clayton and Cherrelyn Elementary schools, Cushing and Belleview Parks.

In Sheridan, the bus stops @ Centennial Park.

In southwest Denver (Westwood), the bus stops @ Munroe, CMS and Goldrick Elementary schools.

Call the Hunger Free Hotline 720 382-2920 for specific dates and times. (Also at www.lunchboxexpress.org)

To find out how you can help, please contact LBX at lunchboxexpress@me.com to obtain informational materials for distribution or to volunteer.

Here's a longer description of operations, plus food info and a short Volunteer Recruiting blurb. Let us know if there's anything else you need or think would help get the word out.

Thanks for your help!

Hannah

LBX 2012 Operations

We operate small used school buses in several Denver Metro communities, distributing free lunches to any child 18 or under. With our bus drivers and our small army of volunteers, we feed kids who would otherwise go hungry when schools are closed.

Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, August 24

 OUR FOOD

The summer lunches that we serve at the Lunchbox Express bus stops are provided through the Food Bank of the Rockies from federally-approved vendors. The lunch plus 8 oz. of milk is nutritionally-balanced.

There are 10 varieties, including cheese, peanut butter, soy butter, tuna salad and hummus. Each lunch bag also contains fruit juice and a fruit cup, crackers, and a snack, such as sunflower seeds.

In addition, we make every effort to provide supplemental fresh produce. Volunteers from Metro State College Nutrition Club arrange for the fruits and vegetables, and prepare and bag it in State-approved kitchens by certified kitchen workers.

“Short” Volunteer Call

Would you like to feed kids in need this summer? Get on the Lunchbox Express bus! Two mini school buses will operate in the Englewood and Sheridan area, and in the Westwood neighborhood and vicinity (Federal Blvd between Alameda and Louisiana). Each bus goes to 3 or 4 locations between 11 am and 1 pm and delivers lunches to anyone 18 and under. Volunteer opportunities range from ½ hour to 3 hours per day (Monday through Friday, May 29 – August 24). Bring your kids to help the kids.
