Denver to Celebrate Earth Day Fair on April 18
Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock will present awards to certified businesses under Certifiably Green Denver, a free, environmental assistance program for businesses who are looking to reduce their impact on the environment by identifying the best sustainable business practices. Representatives from various non-profit organizations, private companies and of course, city agencies, will provide information and interactive displays on various services and offerings. Those looking to test their sustainability knowledge could win prizes, including the grand prize of two free tickets to see Denver’s own, The Fray, performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Saturday, May 12, 2012. This year’s fair will be Zero Waste, meaning that only materials that can be locally recycled or composted will be given away with as little waste going to the landfill as possible. Some of Denver’s top food trucks will participate, demonstrating simple “green” changes that businesses can make. Since the creation of Earth Day in 1970, people from around the world have come together to celebrate and promote environmental conservation and sustainability. All activities and displays are designed to educate and engage residents about the ways we can protect our natural resources for future generations and celebrate our success with innovative local projects and companies. Denver area residents, students and downtown employees are encouraged to stop by the City and County Building plaza and learn how Denver organizations are making a difference. Certifiably Green Denver, formerly known as Denver Pollution Prevention Partners, certifies restaurants, auto repair shops, offices, and retail spaces. The program provides resources to help businesses to increase energy and water efficiency, reduce waste, and ultimately improve their bottom line.
