support. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

GET Inspired conference call minutes
- Houston Internship runs from June 1st to August 1st. Total 2 months. In other cities, date can be different depending on date of college closure.
- 1st two weeks : orientation and helping interns to connect to project
- 2 Weeks - Familiarize with the project - take to the field a couple of times - then they will be managing the projects themselves
- Children program, Women Empowerment, Health intern, media and promotion, grant writing, documentation intern - for Bhutanese program - At the end we organize a small event giving certificate.
- There is no fee for internship. We don't pay anything to interns. Interns spend their own gas and time to help in this internship program
- Volunteer Match - Each chapter should do their own advertisement – Houston will help in doing this
- First time chapters - Houston (Vasudev ji) can help advertise For BRE we have ads for most positions
- Be prompt in responding - Ideally the same day
- Application Process is intentionally difficult to attract serious candidates - Long essay type questions, etc
- Volunteers sign a waiver form when the sign up for internship to absolve Sewa from property and other kind of damages.
- You can take 3 other projects in addition to BRE project - All projects are supported.
- Family Services project - Hindu Family Services - We can start Family Helpline for counseling, conduct workshop. We provide family oriented services. Forms, documents, flyers,
- How to start a helpline for the Indian families. If this is a need in your area this is a very good project. Decide how to develop positive families and homes. Summer camps, etc.
- Indian Circle of Caring - In Houston there was a seminar - A very good model we can adopt - Ouricc.org - We talked to them
- Dallas - Trying to help a woman who was pushed out of home with children by her husband. Sewa is trying to help - It is a great idea.
- Cleveland & Boston - Organization/Helpline for women established by some other organization.
- Helping the homeless Children in School - Every school district will have a Homeless liaison - keeps track of children who have no stable home. Every school district has a need for mentor to help the child. Provide school supplies, etc. You can get contact details of the liaison of your school district by googling.
- Advantages: Supported by the school district - no need to get data about the target population. People who need help are organized by the school district. Easy to work with them.
- Micromentorship: No need to spend time every week. - celebrating festivals with the child, send greeting cards. can be done one child - one family relationship. Great way to spread sewa's word and establish relationship with many families.
- Kriti: (Sewa full time volunteer in Houston) : Each school has a program for homeless children. Building a connection helps approach schools for other programs. Works as a great platform for collaboration with the school district)
- International Program Support and Local Project support - Program Development internship – interns for mediaand promotion, to develop support for a program in India.
projects that could be supported in this 3rd group :
- Cricket For Sewa -
- Doctors For Sewa - (Darshan) - YFS - Involve doctors with Dr. Hedgewar Rugnalay - involve them either directly with the Rugnalay or any of its projects. Generally doctors take care of the travel expenses and the expenses are tax deductible.
3. Sponsor a Child Program in different cities in Bharat : promoting program in community here to support the program in Bangalore, Bhagyanagar etc.
4. Any other similar project that local team wants to develop.
- Moving Forward
- First week - decide the coordinator and other volunteers and advertise
- Sumit Mehta from Houston will provide support - conducting Interviews advertisement, etc.
- Maintaining good interns is very important – In Houston, 50-70 volunteers apply - about 15-20 are chosen
- We need to take it seriously, we get good volunteers
- Make it sound like an opportunity – it is important that participants see value and opportunity in this
- 25 hours every week - 4 times in office every week. inform us about the vacation and commit to 200 hours of service in the internship.
- Tell them if they don't follow through the commitment, the children and people who need help don't get the help. They should feel responsible to the people they serve.
- Prompt communication is required.
- Next call is at 7 PM CST next Saturday (03/31/2012). Chapters taking up this program should finalize the coordinator and the team. Also select the projects that you will support. Selecting one project helps do it well. Otherwise select one main project and one additional project.
