Namaste,

In Hindu traditions, during celebrations of Navratri (nine nights of Durga), many people fast 9 days in around April and then in October every year. On the eighth day, regarded as "Ashtami", most of the Hindus perform "Kanjak" in which they carry out pooja and hold a seating for girls (mainly seven in number) who they consider Goddess (Maa) in disguise. Their feet are washed as a mark of respect for the Goddess and then they are offered new clothes, fruits, food and money (usually couple of dollars) as gifts by the worshiper.

In Atlanta, Sewa volunteers meet each other on 3rd or 4th Saturday of every month for Sundarkand (reciting praises of Lord Hanuman). Last Saturday, when Sundarkand was over, Six years old Tanisha Khurana (pre-K student and a Balagokulam kid) approached me with a bundle of a few dollars in her hand. When I unwrapped the bundle there were $43. She told me that this money is for Bhutanese.  While I was looking at the money in my hand,
her father Shyam Khuranaji told me that she has collected this money herself. on my questions ,"How Tanisha collected herself?", Shyam Khuranaji told me that this is the money that Tanisha got from Tooth-ferry and as a Navratri Kanjak.

I asked Shyamji's wife that how her daughter got this noble idea at such young age. They told me that they took their kids to feed homeless people in downtown during her 6th birthday. Since then she is collecting money for needy people. They told her about needy people in Bhutanese community, so she decided to give that money to me so that I can help the needy Bhutanese.

A VERY BIG AUM to little Tanisha and Khurana family for giving right sanskaras to their young kids.

In Love, Light & Bliss,
Swadesh
