Subject: Administrative Rulemaking Hearing Notices
Dear Stakeholders –
The Department of Excise and Licenses is conducting two administrative rulemaking hearings in the Department's Hearing Room, Webb Building, 206. Please forward these notices to anyone in your networks who may be interested.
1 – Monday, July 2nd at Noon, Herdic (Taxi Driver) License Changes. The Denver Taxi Advisory Council made its first recommendations to the Mayor, attached above, which he approved. The proposed rule is attached above. The current taxi driver's license is credit card size, usually remaining unseen to the passenger, creating issues of accountability and unlicensed operation. The proposed rule would require two additional and larger display licenses issued by Excise and Licenses, one visible by the passenger before entering a cab, and the other visible by the passenger in the interior rear of the cab.
2 – Thursday, July 26th at 9AM, 500 Foot Rule – Hotel & Restaurant Liquor Licenses. This office has been approached by a number of community, neighborhood and business groups about changing the applicability of the "500 Foot Rule" to the basic restaurant liquor license. The full explanation is attached above. After socializing the issue for six months to neighborhood organizations, interest groups, Councilmembers, etc, we have found remarkably strong support and nearly no opposition, and we have therefore initiated the formal rulemaking process.
