Subject: tech program; 7-12th grades

University of Colorado, Denver (UCD) is hosting a free opportunity for “girls of color” from 7-12th grades. They have extended the deadline for us. This is open for girls outside the Denver city too as long as they can find a way to get to the campus. They are working on getting bus passes for the girls. Please share this with your friends, neighbors and organizations. This is what they sent:

Compugirls is a program for female teens of color that teaches them skills in technology and introduces them to careers in media and technology.  We will teach them how to make movies, podcasts, video games and virtual realities in several sessions throughout the year.

Compugirls is a year commitment. During the summer we will run our first session from July 9th to July 27th , Monday-Thursday from 9-5pm.  The program is entirely free. The second session will be during the month of August—we will work with girls schedules we will probably transition the program to an afterschool/weekend program.  The sessions will be held on the UC Denver campus downtown and we will provide snacks. We are currently working on getting bus passes for girls.

Any questions? Please contact Ashley Babjack    ASHLEY.BABJACK@UCDENVER.EDU
She wrote: I am currently a graduate assistant at the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Education and Human Development.  Along with my supervisor, Dr. Shelley Zion, I am trying to network with local organizations that foster young women in Denver to promote a program we are starting at UCD called Compugirls.
We are currently trying to find sites that would allow us to come in to do our programming or find sites that are interested in helping us network with possible female youth participants.

Attached please find the flyers. Have fun! And sorry it only includes “girls of color.”
